Indian Blanket is the perfect annual to give your prairie first year color or to just add a pop of color to any landscape. Happy, bright red flowers tipped with yellow often bloom May through August, but if the weather is fair, they may bloom longer. Although classified as an annual, it can re-seed itself and come back the following growing season.
This annual prefers full sun and is very heat tolerant. It reaches heights anywhere from 1 to 3 feet.
Blanket Flower produces a similar bloom, but is a perennial.
How To Plant Indian Blanket Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early to mid spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun. Typically blooms in the same growing season as it's planted.
