Tickseed Sunflower (Bidens aristosa) is a native annual that provides first year color to any of our Wet Soil Native Seed Mixes. It tolerates high water levels and will grow in full sun to partial shade.
Considered a late-season native plant, it typically blooms anywhere from July to late September. Reaches heights of 2-5 feet. Produces a cheery yellow flower that pollinators love. And yes, the seeds will stick to your clothes!
It is also known as Bearded Beggarticks.
How To Plant Tickseed Sunflower Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in partial shade to full sun. Typically produces blooms the first growing season. It is an annual species and will need to be replanted every growing season.
