While we call this mix Woodland Edge, the native grass and wildflower species it is comprised of can tolerate being planted in any area that is partially shaded and has well-drained soils. Partially shaded means that it will need at least 4 hours of sunlight a day. Finished heights on this mix will be 3 to 5 feet tall and we've included a wide range of wildflowers that bloom at different times of the growing season. This is a great mix for pollinator habitat and it contains Common Milkweed to attract Monarch butterflies.
Some things to remember:
This mix of native grasses and wildflowers will need at least three growing seasons to fully establish.
This mix does contain some annuals for color and foraging the first growing season. However, partial shade can mean cooler soil temperatures. This can lead to slower germination later on in the growing season.
After the end of the growing season, you can leave this mix standing tall all fall and winter long as habitat. Native bees will winter in the hollow stems. Cut it back in the spring when it starts to green up to allow new growth to receive enough light.

Broadcast seeding is the process of sowing seed by hand. The seeds are sprinkled into the soil and can be lightly raked in to ensure germination.
